As a Network Engineer, the individual will conduct technical tasks, network monitoring and control, technical support including troubleshooting and resolving maintenance issues for all systems in the network.  In this role, the Engineer will perform the installation of new equipment and systems, provide network status updates, minimize downtime, and other reporting as required. This position will also commission and transition new network nodes, monitor network and user usage, and resolve problems with Communication Facilities and voice/video/data service as required. 

Responsibilities

  • Conducts IP-core network operations and maintenance
  • Completes Tier II and III level support troubleshooting (ticket handling)
  • Responds to Tier I and II service desk requests
  • Ensures correct solutions and implementation of network solutions
  • Performs routine daily operational activities, provisioning of network elements (e.g. Cisco core switches and routers, CPE equipment)   
  • Ensures that services are configured for survivability and load balancing within a secure framework
  • Troubleshoots and resolve solution issues, provides reports and recommendations to management on an ongoing basis
  • Liaise with appropriate team members, contractors and vendors on technical issues for timely resolution 
  • Works directly with the Sr. Network Administrator in carrying out processes and procedures for day-to-day support of IP Networks
  • Works on and completes general data network engineering tasks with focus on IP networks
  • Performs other tasks as required by OSC and the Government contracting office

Required Qualifications/Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related scientific or technical discipline or 7 years of related technical skills and experience 
  • Must have hands-on knowledge and experience of Network Administration methods and tools in a DoD contracting environment 
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), CCNA R/S, CCNA Security or similar certification/equivalent experience
  • Hands on experience with Cisco Routers and Switches
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of experience with building and managing complex networks in a WAN/LAN environment
  • Strong knowledge of WAN networking technologies including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP4 and secure tunneling protocols
  • Proxy and content filtering experience (Bluecoat, Websense, or Surfcontrol)
  • Experience with packet-level capture and traffic analysis tools such as Wireshark and TCPDump.
  • Must have a valid Security+ Certification
  • Understanding of VPN technologies 
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks, work with limited supervision, and be able to communicate clearly and concisely to others
  • Ability to create high quality documentation and network diagrams
  • Experience with Solar Winds, HP Openview, or other Network Monitoring Systems
  • Proficient with computer and network cabling standards
  • Must have and maintain at least a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications/Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of Firewalls, IDS's, Proxy Servers, and network security devices and software; IP networking, IP security, and TCP/IP applications experience in TCP/IP intensive environments and routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP, Solid understanding of OSI model, Strong knowledge of layer-2 technologies such as STP, VTP, PAGP, PACP, PPP, PPTP, ARP, LLDP, ISL, 802.1Q, Port Security and VLANS.
